Sentence Structure 2

Put the pieces together: a fixed SOV skeleton, particles for role, negation before the verb, and connectors to join clauses.

Sentence Structure — Word order, negation, questions and linking clauses.

Lesson

Build from a core sentence

Start with subject + object + verb, then add time, place, negation and a connector. 저는 매운 음식을 먹어요 → 저는 매운 음식을 안 먹어요 → 저는 매운 음식을 안 먹지만 김치를 좋아해요.

कर्ता + कर्म + क्रिया से शुरू करें, फिर समय, स्थान, नकार और संयोजक जोड़ें। 저는 매운 음식을 먹어요 → 저는 매운 음식을 안 먹어요 → 저는 매운 음식을 안 먹지만 김치를 좋아해요।

The full template

(time) + subject + object + (negation) + verb, with clauses joined by -고 / -서 / -지만 / -면. Each slot has one job, and the verb keeps the last slot.

(समय) + कर्ता + कर्म + (नकार) + क्रिया, जिसमें उपवाक्य -고 / -서 / -지만 / -면 से जुड़ते हैं। हर स्थान का एक काम है, और अंतिम स्थान क्रिया का रहता है।

Everything at once

저는 어제 친구를 만나서 영화를 봤어요 (Yesterday I met a friend and watched a movie). 시간이 없어서 오늘은 운동을 못 해요 (I have no time, so I cannot exercise today).

저는 어제 친구를 만나서 영화를 봤어요 (कल मैं मित्र से मिला और फ़िल्म देखी)। 시간이 없어서 오늘은 운동을 못 해요 (समय नहीं है, इसलिए आज व्यायाम नहीं कर सकता)।

Long sentences in messages

A friend writes 오늘 너무 바빠서 점심을 못 먹었어요 (I was so busy today that I could not eat lunch). Three ideas, one sentence, verbs stacked in the right order.

एक मित्र लिखता है 오늘 너무 바빠서 점심을 못 먹었어요 (आज बहुत व्यस्त था इसलिए दोपहर का खाना नहीं खा सका)। तीन विचार, एक वाक्य, क्रियाएँ सही क्रम में।

Cramming everything into one sentence

Long is not the same as good. If a sentence carries more than three clauses, split it. One clause should carry one idea, or the listener loses the verb.

लंबा होना अच्छा होना नहीं है। यदि वाक्य में तीन से अधिक उपवाक्य हों तो उसे तोड़ें। एक उपवाक्य में एक ही विचार रहे, वरना सुनने वाला क्रिया खो देता है।

Add one piece at a time

Say the core sentence aloud, then add the time word, then the negation, then the connector. Repeating it in stages stops the endings from colliding.

मूल वाक्य बोलें, फिर समय-शब्द जोड़ें, फिर नकार, फिर संयोजक। चरणों में दोहराने से अंत आपस में टकराना बंद हो जाता है।

What TOPIK asks

TOPIK I rearranging items give the pieces of a longer sentence. Anchor the verb at the end, put the connector clause before the final verb, and place negation just before the verb it negates.

TOPIK I के क्रम-व्यवस्थापन प्रश्न लंबे वाक्य के भाग देते हैं। क्रिया अंत में रखें, संयोजक वाला उपवाक्य अंतिम क्रिया से पहले रखें, और नकार उसी क्रिया से ठीक पहले रखें जिसका नकार है।
