Verb Endings 1
The stem is what is left after 다 is removed from the dictionary form: 먹다 - 먹. Every ending, tense and honorific form attaches to this one piece.
Verb Endings — Dictionary form, stems, 해요체 and the irregular verbs.
Take the dictionary form and remove the last syllable 다. What remains is the stem (어간): 먹다 -> 먹, 가다 -> 가, 공부하다 -> 공부하.
शब्दकोश रूप लेकर अंतिम अक्षर 다 हटाइए। जो बचता है वही तना (어간) है: 먹다 -> 먹, 가다 -> 가, 공부하다 -> 공부하।
Stem + 아요/어요 makes the 해요 present: 먹 + 어요 = 먹어요, 가 + 아요 = 가요, 하 + 아요 = 해요. The stem never changes its meaning; only endings pile on it.
तना + 아요/어요 से 해요 वर्तमान बनता है: 먹 + 어요 = 먹어요, 가 + 아요 = 가요, 하 + 아요 = 해요। तने का अर्थ कभी नहीं बदलता; उस पर केवल अंत जुड़ते जाते हैं।
읽다 -> 읽, 쓰다 -> 쓰, 마시다 -> 마시, 배우다 -> 배우. Read each stem aloud before adding the ending.
읽다 -> 읽, 쓰다 -> 쓰, 마시다 -> 마시, 배우다 -> 배우। अंत जोड़ने से पहले हर तना बोलकर पढ़ें।
Learners keep the 다 and write 먹다어요. The dictionary 다 must go before any ending attaches: 먹 + 어요 = 먹어요, never 먹다어요.
शिक्षार्थी 다 छोड़ देते हैं और 먹다어요 लिखते हैं। कोई भी अंत जोड़ने से पहले शब्दकोश का 다 हटना चाहिए: 먹 + 어요 = 먹어요, कभी 먹다어요 नहीं।
Practise saying the bare stem (먹, 가, 하) out loud, then add the ending. When the stem is automatic, the irregular changes become easy to hear.
पहले नंगा तना (먹, 가, ह) बोलकर अभ्यास कीजिए, फिर अंत जोड़िए। जब तना स्वाभाविक हो जाए, तो असमान परिवर्तन सुनाई देने लगते हैं।
